About Jonathan Moggs

Jonathan Moggs is the Head of Mechanistic and Predictive Safety (Preclinical Safety, Translational Medicine, Novartis Biomedical Research) with 23 years of experience in safety assessment and drug development (small molecules; biotherapeutics; cell and gene therapies), investigating mechanisms of toxicity at computational, molecular, biochemical, cellular and physiologic levels. Prior to joining Novartis, Jonathan was Head of Investigative Toxicology at Syngenta Central Toxicology Laboratory. He was Coordinator of the EU Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) MARCAR Consortium focusing on epigenetic mechanisms and biomarkers for Non-Genotoxic Carcinogenesis and is currently leading an IMI imSAVAR consortium on enhanced safety assessment of immunomodulatory therapeutics. He has received the Novartis Leading Scientist Award for contributions to the field of safety epigenetics, a British Toxicology Society Young Investigator Award, an Honorary Professorship in Molecular Toxicology (University of Liverpool, UK), and has been a member of the UK Medical Research Council Molecular and Cellular Medicine Board. His postdoctoral research (EMBO fellowship) focused on the interrelationships between Chromatin Dynamics, Gene Expression and DNA Repair (Institut Curie, Paris, France). His PhD research focused on the Biochemistry of DNA Nucleotide Excision Repair (University of Sussex & Imperial Cancer Research Fund Clare Hall Laboratories, UK). He obtained a B.A. Hons (1st class) in Biochemistry from Pembroke College, University of Oxford, UK.
