About Jonathan Somerville

I accepted the position of Computer Hardware Specialist on January 7, 2015. With this position came duties and responsibilities including but not limited to: Computer Hardware configuration and installation, and End User Support pertaining to hardware and software issues. Soon after starting my position with the city, I was brought in on a project to develop a security surveillance system for our developing downtown area. I volunteered to take on the project; designing, implementing, and maintaining the cameras, networks, and servers. This system has since grown into a much larger network consisting of multiple remote networks and servers, which I monitor and maintain on a daily basis. Along with my first duties, I had also gradually moved more into a network administrative role; designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting our internal and external informational networks. Working as a team with other members of the IT Department, I worked to improve upon, maintain, and track down issues with our current networks. Preparing for the eventual retirement of a key member of our department, I also trained to eventually take over more of the role of the VoIP Phone System Administrator. As with other administrative roles, I designed, implemented, troubleshot, and maintained the phone system on a daily basis ensuring smooth uninterrupted service to not only the city, but to other key city entities. In October of 2017, I was offered the position of Assistant Director of Information Technology. I then held the responsibility of overseeing the day to day operations of the department as well as the aforementioned duties I already possess. This has given me a great sense of accomplishment and has driven me to further my professional development. I really enjoy working with people. Weather it be planning and implementing projects, instructing and helping guide my team members, or helping with individual issues. I love to learn and pass on knowledge, and IT is one world where things are always changing. Providing a need for constant learning and experimentation. I know I bring all the usual values, such as, dedication, loyalty, and strong work ethic to an organization. But I also bring a strong passion to make a difference. I always strive to make things better. I am not the type of person to just settle into a day to day job. I want to do what I can to constantly improve things for myself as well as the whole organization.
