About Jonathan Starke

I am a psychiatrist, psychedelic psychotherapist and mindfulness meditation teacher, currently working at Eastern Health, the Monash Clinical Psychedelic Lab, and Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. I am involved in research trials using psilocybin, MDMA, and 5-MeO-DMT to treat a range of clinical conditions, including treatment resistant depression, PTSD and body image disturbance in the context of anorexia nervosa. Alongside this, I provide supervision to several psychiatrists working as Authorised Prescribers of psychedelics, and am pleased to have partnered with the Psychedelic Consultancy to expand access and support for psychiatrists wanting to enter this space. I am passionate about training, and feel privileged to be a co-lead educator on the Foundations of Psychedelic Therapies short course at Monash University. I have master's degrees looking at the effects of stress on health and the impact of bipolar disorder on brain functional connectivity. I have a special interest in the clinical applications of mindfulness in mental healthcare, health professional wellness and burnout-prevention. Before specialising in psychiatry, I worked in emergency, remote site and expedition medicine, including overwintering in Antarctica and working with MSF in Pakistan, and I have an ongoing interest in supporting individuals and teams working in challenging settings.
