About Jonathan Watkinson

I am in instructor at Virginia Tech. I love teaching and I continually strive to inspire my students to be learners. My goals in the classroom are to foster engagement through student:student and student:professor interactions. To me the classroom is a community and it is important to make every student welcome and to push every student to do their best and accomplish beyond their expectations. I am interested in curriculum development and want to develop plant centered courses that address real world problems through classroom based research. My research focus is in plant biochemistry and molecular biology but I am also a keen botanist and horticulturist. I love biology. My life is biology: all of my hobbies center around the natural world and the organisms in it. My greatest joy is being outside, observing the wonders of living things and asking questions about what they do and how they function. I carry that passion and enthusiasm into the classroom, where I hope it inspires students the way I was inspired as a student.
