About Jonathan Whitehurst

I have 18 years’ experience as a Naval Flight Officer, operating as a mission commander in both P-3 and drone aircraft. I managed 8-12 person crews collecting various forms of data, driving tactical decision making. Now transitioning from the military to the civilian sector, my background of analyzing data in the aircraft, combined with my MBA education, translates well into a Data Analytics career. Enhancing my technical skills of data analytics, including Python and SQL coding acheived with Savvy Coders, has enabled me to build upon my professional experience and prior education to become an effective analyst. Savvy Coders - CAPSTONE - My interest in data is partly based on the idea that almost any aspect of life can be understood through proper data analysis, to include my own hobbies. That's why I chose to look further into college football (something I love to watch), and the impact the transfer portal regulations have had on team success. Specifically, the “one-time-transfer rule,” implemented in 2021, may have significantly changed the way programs recruit new players. Though this is a newer aspect of the game with only 2 years of available data, the recency of this process also means its impacts may not be fully understood, providing an opportunity for data to provide clarity. The specific question I attempt to answer is if an increase in the number of players recruited through the transfer portal rule correlates with increased program success. A little bit (strange) about me. Since leaving active duty in 2016, my wife, three children and dog have been living and traveling in our RV, visiting 45 states. As a family, we enjoy skiing and hiking, splashing in summer creeks and ice skating frozen ponds, which explains our recent move to Vermont. I've recently become a ski instructor at my local mountain, passing on my love of winter sports to others.
