About Jonathon Backus

I am a board-certified orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, providing comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for patients in Vail and Frisco.My clinical focus includes ankle instability, fracture management, cartilage injuries, post-traumatic arthritis, ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, and total ankle replacement. I care for recreationally active individuals as well as elite athletes, with an emphasis on restoring function and preserving joint motion whenever possible.I earned my medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and completed orthopedic surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at The Steadman Clinic.In addition to clinical practice, I serve as Director of Foot & Ankle Research at The Steadman Clinic. My research interests include ankle instability, fracture outcomes, cartilage restoration, and reconstructive surgical techniques. I remain actively involved in peer-reviewed research and national collaborative orthopedic studies within the foot and ankle specialty.Practice locations: Vail and Frisco, Colorado.
