About Jone Mataitoga

Bula Vinaka, My name is Jone Soata Mataitoga and I am a graduate of the University of the South Pacific with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. From a young age, I have always been curious of how things work, and have a passion for solving problems which was mostly the reason why I wanted to become an Engineer. Whilst studying at USP, I have been known to have excellent collaborational, organizational and communication skills, having participated in numerous group projects for various units with the most notable projects being; •Study and Improvement of Lift of the DAE31 Airfoil using the X-Foil software, •Creating a Bolt Group Design and Analysis Tool using MS Excel, •Design and Analysis of a Prosthetic Arm, •Study of CFC and HFC Refrigerants and their harmful effects on the Environment. •Study of Aspect Ratio and Lubrication in Strain Hardening of Sintered Fe 0.74%C Steel during Cold Upsetting. •Introductory Journal - Design of a CPAP Machine to be locally produced for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea patients in Fiji •Case Study on Maintenance and Reliability for Chips Production at Flour Mills of Fiji •Barrier Analysis on Adaptability of Online Learning using an MCDM Approach - ISM and MICMAC analysis Finally, as per curriculum, the Final year capstone project;"EXPLORING THE PROPERTIES AND POTENTIALS OF FIJIAN BANANA FIBER: Design, build and test a Banana fiber Extractor and test the Tensile strength of the Fiber". I, along with my project partner, had the honor of presenting our Final year project to the 4th Pacific Islands University Research Network (PIURN) Conference hosted virtually from Solomon Islands, with the idea of bringing new innovation that also help fight the Climate Change battle in the Pacific. Furthermore, I have also excelled when given more independent roles, and demonstrated my willingness to learn, adapt and accurately follow instructions. During my studies, I also completed internships with Fiji Airports (Safety, Risk and Management Team), Tropik Wood Industries Ltd as a Mechanical Engineering trainee and most recently with Fiji Airways. With these hands-on experience, as well as the growing knowledge base I have gathered along the way, I am always prepared to put my knowledge and abilities to work with the hopes that I gain more experience and skills to enable me to advance in this challenging field. I currently am still with Fiji Airways as an Engineering Trainee, but I am always open to new oppotunities that can help me further my engineering knowledge and expand my capabilities as an Engineer.
