About Joon Kim

Joon Kim is a global health expert with a doctorate in public health from the Harvard University. He currently works with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, focusing on immunization strategy, partnerships, and multilateral engagement. His work bridges policy and practice—most notably through his doctoral thesis, which examined the sustainability of immunization systems in former Gavi-supported middle-income countries. With over 15 years of experience in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), Joon previously served with UNICEF, leading Social and Behavior Change (SBC) programs in Nepal, Ghana, India, and Malaysia. His work included applied research, evidence-based strategy design, and large-scale program evaluation. He has advised health ministries on vaccine introduction, national child obesity campaigns, and strengthening health workers' risk communication and community engagement. Joon’s work has been published in leading journals including BMJ Global Health, Vaccine, and the Bulletin of the World Health Organization.
