About Jop Beugels

If your mind can conceive it, and your heart can believe it - then you can achieve it" is the rule that I live by. My name is Jop Beugels and I am a young, ambitious professional in the early days of my career. I am driven by the longstanding wish to master the art of Plastic Surgery. I completed my plastic surgery residency at Maastricht University Medical Center between March of 2018 and March of 2024. Afterwards I completed a fellowship on microsurgery at Maastricht University Medical Center. Deeply inspired by all the great people in the field who set an example of who I want to become - as a doctor, but even more as a person - I try to be the best version of myself. On December 5th 2019 I obtained my PhD, Cum Laude, focussing on autologous breast reconstruction. More specifically, on complications, innovative techniques (i.e. the LTP flap, the SHAEP flap) and on restoring the sensation of the reconstructed breast. My aim is to play my part in the further improvement of (micro)surgical techniques to be able to reconstruct a breast that resembles a normal breast even more closely, thereby improving the quality of life of all patients confronted with this terrible disease called breast cancer. As a PhD student I had the opportunity to do a research internship in Manhattan (Dr. Levine) and in Houston (Dr. Spiegel). Together with our team, I am currently setting up a new research line focusing on autologous fat transplantation for total breast reconstruction in irradiated patients. For me it is important to create a network to surround myself with people who share the same fundamental principles of ambition, dedication, everlasting positive energy and the ultimate desire to make the best out of each day.
