About Jordan Birkner

I'm Jordan, a graduate student studying behavioral health science and interdisciplinary genetics and genomics. I currently serve as the Opinion Editor of Technician and research disease transmission in humans and animals through NC State University. During my time at NC State, I have been involved in various research labs, including critical thinking pedagogy and critical neurodiversity studies. These experiences have prepared me for researching behavioral health and advocating for affected communities, specifically those impacted by neurodevelopmental disabilities that lead to mental health disorders. Since 2022, I've worked in behavioral healthcare at the Autism Society of NC as a direct service provider. This allows me to support clients directly while gaining firsthand insights into the needs of clients and providers. In 2023, I completed undergraduate degrees in Neuropsychology, Biology, and Psychology to gain scientific background on human behavior. Minors in genetics, medical ethics, and business have helped me explore the complex interdisciplinary nature of mental health outcomes.
