About Jordan Cran

I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Masters of Science in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in 2013. My thesis work at the BC Cancer Agency encompassed the development and testing of a hypoxia activated prodrug for radiosensitization in mice. Assay development to reliably quantitate drug levels in cell culture and tissue. Quantitation was determined exclusively by HPLC. Cell survival, viability and metabolite assays were also conducted and results were published in the journal Tumor Microenvironment and Therapy. Following my Masters, I joined Wax-it Histology Services, and specialized in the development of immunohistochemical (IHC) stains for research purposes. I quickly became head of the IHC team, and lead several large scale projects, as well as oversaw the day-to-day work in the lab. Here I became interested in project management, as I developed skills initiating and overseeing long term projects, tracking and managing workflow, managing the expectations and report to stakeholders.I returned to BC Cancer in 2015 and joined the Sorensen Lab in the Department of Molecular Oncology, as a level 3 Research Technician. I enjoyed being back at the bench, however continually gravitated towards more project management work, assisting teams with ethics and research proposals, helping trouble shoot issues and improving systems to increase efficiency and workflow and assisting with funding applications.Currently I am a proud member of the Terry Fox Laboratory at the BC Cancer Agency, and work as a Research Projects Coordinator.At this time, I am working and studying towards obtaining my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, as well as specializing in technical writing through BCIT.I have proficient working knowledge of both Windows and Mac operating systems. I’m competent using Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, as well as GraphPad PRISM, and Adobe Illustrator.
