June 2020 I was a homeless drug addict and alcoholic who was never able to hold down a job without drinking or using on the job.which would eventually get me fired. I lost oxygen to my brain for 4 minutes due to an overdose and luckily made it back. I knew it would only be a matter of time till the next as it wasn't really an accident. I decided to give rehab a try and I learned my first week at Gateway (hats off for a man named Mike) that it was a very easy choice.do you want to live? Ooor do you want to die. because if you go back out there and don't make a difference and get sober.you will die. Maybe not tomorrow or next week or even any amount of years that would mean anything. your life will come to an abrupt end. So I had 2 choices.very simple.Go get err done with the sweaty sheet,that hadn't been washed since I detoxed laying dirty on my bed rolled up in a ball, and a little help of something tall and live a completely sober life. I washed my sheets and made my bed and spent the next 5 weeks there. It's the end of April now of 2022 and I haven't touched a drug or sip of alcohol since leaving Gateway in August on the the 6th of 2020. Almost two years and I now have a house,a fiance (who I told I would marry in the forth grade). She called me the day I got out of Gateway and now have ba beautiful home and a 3 1/2 month old son.Jax. We're getting married next May. It's funny. getting sober was the easiest thing I've ever done. It was the first 30 years of my life that was hard. Don't waste your life whoever you are reading this. I'm extremely grateful for the second half of my life but the other is gone and if I've learned anything it's what short period of time we get here. I hope everyone takes each day they wake up as the greatest gift they've ever received and the next day an even great one. I sell cars now and I love my family. I spend as much time with my son and future wife as I can even when we fight.which isn't for long because time is to precise to hold grudges and be stubborn. Enjoy the ride. Don't waste time but relax when you can. Don't work too hard and be as happy as you can be. Nothing matters in the end besides the time you spend with those you care about most and the impact you leave on each other and what you learn from them. In the end you are left with your memories.
