About Jordan Hamden

I have a Bachelor's in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Zoology with a focus on steroids in the immune and nervous systems. I have 8 years of experience leading a team of research assistants on multidisciplinary research projects. I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at The University of British Columbia in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. My current research focuses on the role of inflammatory bowel disease on neurodegeneration. In my time at UBC, I have also served as an instructor for undergraduate biology courses, a teaching assistant for many more, as a councilor and committee chair for the Graduate Student Society, and as a member of the BC Children's Hospital Social Exposome Cluster.I am passionate about the use of evidence-based science to advance health care and scientific communication. The advancement of health care is dependent on effective scientific communication between experts and the ability for advancements to help as many people as possible is dependent on effective scientific communication with the public at large. Outside of my primary interest in science, I have wide ranging interests including any and all sports, hiking (anything outdoors), wood working (and other related crafts), and reading.
