Background

About Jordan Piper

Jordan is a senior medical student and final-year PhD candidate who complements his studies with a neurosurgical mentorship under the supervision of a consultant neurosurgeon based in the Sutherland Shire. Over more than a decade of study, Jordan has experienced firsthand both the strengths and the limitations of medical education. These experiences inspired Jordan to secure a teaching position himself, in hope that he could do things differently. He views the classroom as an extension of the clinic - a place where students can be inspired to look beyond the textbook and truly understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters. This philosophy has since been recognised through multiple teaching awards and also contributed to his appointment as one of the youngest tenured lecturers in the country.Alongside his teaching, Jordan is leveraging his PhD in neuropathology to build an independent research pipeline focused on the anatomical and mechanistic basis of neurological disease, with particular emphasis on clinical and surgical relevance. His long-term goal is to continue developing as both a clinician and educator, and ultimately to work as a clinical professor, helping ensure that future clinicians are equipped to apply knowledge where it matters most - at the bedside.
