About Jordan Semple

My goal in life is to prevent as many children from slipping through the cracks as possible. I am an empathetic, eager listener with advanced communication skills and a motivation to make a difference. My next step is to get my Masters in mental health counseling so I can apply to be a certified counselor. My target demographic is adolescents from low SES backgrounds. I want to help these kids enter adulthood with their best foot forward despite their risk factors, while fostering their resilience and helping them make use of their protective factors. My experience in working with low SES adolescents comes from my time spent as a summer youth counselor at Boy's Town, a group home that prioritizes using research to inform their policies on positive reinforcement and negative punishment. They trained me in how to use their point based reward system and use effective praise, proactive teaching, and corrective teaching in a way that would most benefit their youth. I'm confident I have a good idea of what kind of work I'll be getting into down the line, and how to best tackle helping this often troubled demographic. I look forward to having a lifelong career helping children who unfairly lack the resources they need to succeed.
