About Jorge Borregales

I graduated from New York University in 2022 with a major in Cinema Studies at Tisch School of the Arts, with a Minor in BEMT (Business, Entertainment, Media and Technology). After graduating, I enrolled in the Cinema Studies MA program at NYU from which I graduated recently. Grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to New York at the age of 18. I am bilingual (Fluent in both Spanish and English), detailed oriented, hard-working, good at communicating ideas, excel under pressure and eager to learn and get better. Throughout my years as a student (and with future hopes of pursuing a PHD; with a special focus in the history and aesthetics of Puertorrican cinema), I have developed an investment in the art, history, business, and technology of film. A voracious reader, obsessive film watcher, I constantly pursue new knowledge about films and their role in our society, past, present and future. In my final academic semester as a graduate student I worked in what will eventually become my doctorate thesis, broadly related to the study of films by Puertorricans and the diaspora) under the supervision of scholar Robert Stam. Interests include listening to music, going to concerts, reading books, running, visiting parks, and playing basketball. I have worked within the Cinema Studies department for the past 5 years or so as a projectionist/teacher assistant and administrative aid at the Study Center. My professional background also includes serving as a volunteer at the Filmmakers’ Coop and as survey staff for ERm research. My interests are mainly focused in the Film and TV industries, and I enjoy watching, discussing, curating and writing critically about films. I have written various academics essays and articles with topics ranging from transnational/national cinemas, classical and contemporary Hollywood cinema, early silent film, exploitation, horror, European art-house, Asian cinema, Latin-American/world cinema and contemporary independent films. Currently hoping to gain experience through internships/work opportunities in order to enhance my overall development and further my professional path in the worlds of film academia, festival, curation, archival work, teaching, and film production, marketing and distribution.
