About Jorge Cartaya

Making learning accessible—and empowering students to thrive—drives my work as an educator, researcher, and writing specialist. At Miami Dade College's Medical Campus, I serve as an Academic Support Writing Coach, where I focus on writing instruction, research literacy, and student engagement strategies. I also draw on my scholarly training as a Ph.D. Candidate in Comparative Literature and a Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellow at Cornell University, where my research examines the Caribbean Anthropocene—tracing how environmental forces like hurricanes and flooding shape lived experiences and challenge dominant climate narratives. Across both academic support and research, I integrate innovative methodologies and digital tools—including AI-driven resources—to make writing, research, and employability skills more accessible for students of all backgrounds. I’m passionate about advancing educational equity and expanding opportunities for the next generation of scholars and professionals.
