About Jorge Ferrer

Jorge Ferrer, MD, MBA, FAMIA, FHIMSS, has practiced health informatics since within the U.S. Federal government with expertise in health informatics, healthcare information technology, and emerging technology-blockchain healthcare. He currently works as a Health Informaticist in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics, Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association, and Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. He is an Editor of Aspects of the Computerized Medical Record, Computers in Health Care, Health Informatics Series, Second Edition, Springer.He is a recipient of the 2022 FedHealth IT Innovation Award, 2024 FORUM IT 100 Award, and the 2025 HIMSS Changemaker in Health Finalist. He serves on the Editorial Board for Blockchain in Healthcare Today journal, Government Chair of the American Council for Technology-Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) Blockchain Working Group, and member of the ACT-IAC Emerging Technology Community of Interest.He is an affiliate member of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Informatics Association, and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Dr. Ferrer holds an M.D. from Universidad Anahuac Medical School and an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University. He did his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Informatics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is licensed as a surgical assistant by the Texas Medical Board, actively practicing in the private sector.
