About Jorge Kaufmann

Chilean economist. His areas of activity are mainly public financial management tools (financial programming, control of income and spending, public investment management) and public program evaluation systems in national and subnational governments. Since mid-2021 he has been devoted to independent research, international consulting and teaching. In these fields he has worked in the design and implementation of projects, technical assistance, and training in Latin American and Caribbean countries. His most recent research and work has been on public health management (mainly payment mechanisms for hospitals, including budgeting and procurement); economic effects of climate change on agricultural production; management of the State's legal defense; and non-reimbursable international cooperation, among others. During the first half of 2024, he designed and taught 3 courses (avg of 35 hours each) to public officials on soft skills, performance indicators, and results-based budgeting. Over 30 years of professional experience in the areas of international development, public sector management, and fiscal policy in more a dozen of Latin American and Caribbean countries. His domain expertise is complemented with effective leadership skills, a proven record of participating in and coordinating work teams, and excellent interpersonal communication with clients and counterparts. Jorge holds a Master in Economy from the Catholic University of Chile, and realized post-graduated studies at Boston University, where he was also a visiting scholar.
