About Jorne Boterman

Over the course of BSc in Applied Physics I learned that physics itself was my primary interest, keeping to theoretical considerations more along the direction of philosophy of science. Being educated to become an engineer in both the BSc and the MSc programs, I sought my way through the most fundamental courses. Courses in fundamentals such as classical electrodynamics and quantum mechanics I combined with the more philosophical course on the interpretations of quantum mechanics and the applied subjects on semiconductor nano-devices and mesoscopic physics. With a thesis project in the completely different direction of fluid dynamics and optics and a keen interest to dig into general relativity, I try to maintain a wide perspective in physics. In a more practical sense my focus is on programming. Having done a minor track in software engineering, I have obtained a firm basis in object oriented programming which allowed me to expand and learn new programming languages. With this versatility I was able to bridge the gap between scientists and informaticists during my internship, exemplary of my intentions to pursue a career where I am free to maintain a physicist’s curiosity while being of practical value in software applications. Currently this pursuit is in progress working as an Engineer at Airbus DS Leiden, where I am expanding my skills in software engineering.
