About Joseph Bennett
A rising senior at Yale, I’ve devoted my education to fundamental energy materials research, supporting place-based solutions to local needs, and coordinating projects that aim to foster engaged, strong communities. Recent hometown coalition-building has united these interests. A gap remains between the benefits of laboratory breakthroughs and the energy sector workers and environmental justice communities central to the energy transition. However, trust built through sustained relationships has always proven decisive in achieving community goals – a budding labor-environmental coalition is producing exciting advocacy for union solar and wind projects and expanding apprenticeship programs. Inspired by this work, I’m passionate about supporting organizations that center community trust in efforts to achieve a just energy transition. Site visits, conferences, and speaker series through the Energy Studies Certificate and CBEY have supplemented curricular and extracurricular skills I’ve developed. I’m looking forward to applying these strengths toward opportunities at the intersection of clean energy infrastructure, manufacturing & industrial policy, labor & workforce development, and progressive policy.
