About Joseph Buzzanco

I’m a lifelong learner with a knack for cyber incident response and threat hunting. Anchored in the diagnostic skills I've refined over the years, from when I was a child taking apart every piece of technology I could get my hands on, through my nursing career diagnosing and treating illness in human beings, to my current career as an incident responder using the same curiosity, information synthesis, and diagnostic skills to determine the root cause and chain of events associated with cyber attacks and security incidents, I’ve grown into and continue to excel in my current role. I started my career as an EMT and Registered Nurse after graduating from Villanova University with bachelor's degrees in Psychology (Class of 2014) and Nursing (Class of 2016). After working several years as a Critical Care RN, I decided to leave the medical field and pursue a long time interest in Cybersecurity. Along with a lot of self-study, I graduated from the "Cybersecurity Professional Bootcamp" at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2022 and began working as a Cybersecurity Engineer with the Global Threat Detection and Response team at Chubb Insurance, where I continue to work full-time. I also recently started giving back by teaching cybersecurity as an Associate Instructor for ThriveDX at the University of Central Florida. At Chubb, I primarily function as a Tier 2 SOC Analyst/Incident Responder, with ancillary threat hunting and engineering engagements. I’m currently focusing on expanding my threat hunting abilities while pursuing leadership opportunities. With ThriveDX, I have the privilege of meeting and teaching the next generation of Cybersecurity Professionals. Outside of my official duties I enjoy engaging with and contributing to public privacy and security initiatives with an emphasis on projects that promote and protect freedom of speech, data protection, and personal privacy.
