Background

About Joseph C.

As an undergraduate at the Elliott lab, focused on redox metalloenzymes in bacterial systems such as bacterial cytochrome c peroxidases (bCCP) and studied their activity, primarily the enzyme YhjA. Also investigated the structural and catalytic properties of the protein, pyruvate: ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) in the OFOR superfamily and explored possible mutational methods in the Chlorobaculum tepidum model system to tune reductive capabilities. The associated roles of the partner ferredoxins I, II, and were also examined. Joined Aera Therapeutics as a research associate in protein sciences supporting the protein nanoparticle platform. Facilitated the expression, purification, and characterization of target endogenous gag proteins capable of encapsulating genetic medicines. Currently working in the Department of Genetic Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine as a lab technician mainly performing process/QC assay development for AAV-based drug products.
