Background

About Joseph Clark

s an accomplished professional with a diverse background in education, museum leadership, and advocacy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Goucher College, where he graduated in January 2022. Currently, Joseph serves as the Lead Program Facilitator at the Chris Wilson Foundation, where he leads and coordinates weekly discussion sessions for incarcerated students. His work focuses on trauma, resilience, personal relationships, goal-setting, and reentry planning. Joseph collaborates with other facilitators to develop a curriculum based on Chris Wilson’s book,*The Master Plan: My Journey from a Life in Prison to a Life of Purpose*. His empathetic approach and commitment to inclusive and ethical community engagement practices have been instrumental in helping students integrate back into society successfully. Since April 2023, Joseph has been interning at the Center for Restorative History at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. In this role, he has drafted educational guides for exhibits highlighting overlooked stories of Black history and developed proposals for theoretical exhibits on topics such as mass incarceration and its historical ties to slavery. His research contributions support the African American History Curatorial Collective, and he actively collaborates with museum staff to enhance visitor experiences and streamline operations. Joseph's professional journey includes previous roles such as a server and customer service representative at Matchbox, where he excelled in providing exceptional customer service and managing daily finances, and as a library clerk at MCE, where he maintained library operations and improved efficiency through project management. In addition to his professional roles, Joseph is actively involved in advocacy work. He is a member of the Walls + Workarounds Advisory Committee at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, where he collaborates on listening sessions with justice-impacted communities and advises on exhibition content. He also participated in a roundtable discussion with Isabella Guzman from the Small Business Administration, advocating for increased support for formerly incarcerated individuals. Joseph’s dedication to accessibility and support for students with disabilities was demonstrated during his time as an academic notetaker and student advocate at Goucher College. There, he provided accessibility support and maintained detailed class notes for a deaf and vision-impaired student. Through his varied experiences, Joseph has developed a strong foundation in leadership!
