About Joseph Karimu

I am a Chartered Certified Accountant with over 18 years private and public sector experience, currently working with Mano Mining and Logistics Limited, managing the contract mining operations at Sierra Rutile Limited. Prior to joining Mano Mining and Logistics Limited, I worked at Goldtree (SL) Limited as Finance Director, where I led the company’s finance team in Sierra Leone. I was the Financial Management and Resource Mobilisation Specialist on the Sierra Leone Agribusiness Development Fund (SLADF) project where KPMG International Development Advisory Services (IDAS) were the Fund Managers. In this role, I was responsible for monitoring and assessing the implementation of each grantee’s project, ensuring efficient utilisation of the funds disbursed, working with grantees to strengthen the financial management systems of their organisations through the application of industry best practice. I was also responsible for reporting on the fund and the grantee’s performance to the World Bank, through the Project Coordinating Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture. Prior to joining KPMG IDAS, I was the Chief Finance Officer at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority, where I led the finance team of Sierra Leone’s national electricity distribution authority, focusing on improving the performance of the authority and managing the implementation of donor funded projects geared towards improving the sustainability of the authority. I also worked as Finance Manager at Sunbird Bioenergy (SL) Limited (previously Addax Bioenergy (SL) Limited), an agro-industrial and renewable energy operation that produces bioethanol from sugarcane and generates “green” electricity where I managed the finance department of Sierra Leone’s largest agricultural investment. Before joining Addax Bioenergy (SL) Limited, I spent 1 year 5 months in the mining industry with Sierra Rutile Limited (SRL) where I held the position of Management Accountant. Prior to joining SRL in May 2013, I worked at Standard Chartered Bank (Gambia) Limited for 3 years; I started as Reporting Manager and later became the Acting Financial Controller. I also worked at CFAO Motors in the capacity of Chief Accountant; Project Accountant at Nova Scotia Gambia Association and Assistant Financial Accountant at Sankung Sillah and Sons Limited. I am a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) and holds an MBA from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom. I am also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sierra Leone (ICASL).
