About Joseph Larkin

Hey, my name is Joseph Larkin, I am a Novocastrian and currently in my 3rd and fourth year in Construction Management at the University of Newcastle, & recently finished work as a full time Junior Project Manager for Backspace Living. Initially my role at Backspace was solely voluntary to gain a better understanding of the practical application of my degree. I found I jelled well with the team and the work, and quickly progressed to a position, assisting many facets of the company, Sales, Estimating, Site Supervision & mainly focusing on Contract Administration. Six months into my time at BSL, I began taking on the day to day construction operations while still juggling the other facets of my role. Although this was challenging I enjoyed rising to the occasion and the opportunity for learning & exposure. I was responsible for scheduling all trades and suppliers, managing clientele & coordinating our internal team of carpenters, the role was purely reactive. I stayed at this level of responsibility for 8 months, with minimal support. I am now looking for a position that can again expose me to many facets of the company however in a more structured setting. I have a strong work ethic that allows me to immerse myself in the environment I’m passionate about. My current exposure in the industry has taught me independence and the ability to be proactive and reactive in all scenarios, it’s now about building systems into my approach.
