Background
About Joseph N. Everett E.
INTRO • I'm not your average designer. I have worked between Paris and Italy for the last 40 years as a designer of couture (Ungaro, Givenchy, Hanae Mori), and co-founded a bureau-de-style designing prêt-à-porter (Louis Féraud, Guy Laroche, Jean-Louis Scherrer, Parakian), but today my craft reinvents itself as a designer and costumier in fashion and film, demanding I introduce myself reminded of my humble roots. ROOTS • Canadian, born in Alberta, my caucasian looks leave many surprised when saying I am a registered member of the Siksika Blackfoot Nation, my original Native American tribe. I am officially named Joseph N. Everett, but have been rebaptised after my Blackfoot grandfather, Kaitsauka Redgun. Based in Paris, my company is now called Redgun, while as a creator I proudly bear the name KAITSAUKA®, meaning “the One who Dreams High”. MISSION • Indeed, I nurture the dream of creating projects celebrating a close collaboration between First Nations' artists and artisans with European craftsmen joining forces to turn High Fashion and Film into the keeper of First Nations' global heritage. IN FASHION • To serve this purpose, my creative undertakings in fashion apply a thorough knowledge of production garnered over the last four decades to creating KAITSAUKA®, a line of Exclusive Couture and Luxury Accessories, creating employment for a mixed workforce blending Indigenous artistry and French “savoir-faire”. This involves providing both European and First Nations' manufacturers with a forum in which to practice their ancestral skills. Through this, environment-friendly materials pioneered in the market will be transformed into pieces of Art, designed to preserve and transmit First Nations’ culture. IN FILM • In film this vision expresses itself through ©STAR PEOPLE : an ensemble fiction telling an-interlocking story involving four generations of a genealogy fragmented by traumas of the First Nations Genocide. This psychological drama, was Developed to bring awareness of the plight of the First Nations peoples, that effects humanity at large today. This complex story and somewhat biographical, took years in development with the generous collaboration alongside a young screenwriter, Jimmy Cublion. My ambition in creating these projects, is to create a nonprofit organization in helping abused children in coping with childhood traumas. Like myself being a survivor of the SixtiesScoop in which children were abducted from their families and place into the abusive fostering system.
