About Joseph Nchere Pitso

Dr Joseph Pitso has a PhD in Demography from the Australian National University. He is currently Head of Gender at SADC SECRETARIAT. He was with UNFPA Botswana as Programme Specialist for Gender from 2011 to February 2014, having lectured Demography at the University of Botswana for the 20 years leading to his joining UNFPA. His experience includes: Wide consultancy experience to promote evidence-based policy-making for social development. Extensive consultancy experience largely derived from his ability to write comprehensive and methodologically sound proposals and, hence, successful grant applications. Building of Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting System for Programmes. Providing technical support to strengthen programme and strategies to address gender-based violence and gender mainstreaming. He served as UNFPA Botswana’s Gender Focal Point in national technical committees, inter-agency groups, and regional forums. Moreover, he provided Gender-related coordination, substantive technical support and logistical support to the United Nations Country Team and Country Coordination Working Groups during quarterly meetings. He has extensive experience in research, training, monitoring and evaluation in the areas of Gender and Development, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV/AIDS, Population and Development and Health Research System Strengthening. He has published several articles in international journals and conference proceedings.
