About Joseph Oye

After serving as Sightsavers' Country Director in Cameroon for 14 years, I was promoted to the role of Senior Advisor for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). I have over 20 years of first-hand professional programming and influencing experience at all levels, grassroots-through-to-global, with increasing responsibilities. I do possess outstanding skills, competencies and track records in transformative leadership, rights-based approach, effective partnerships and accountability to beneficiaries, target communities, partners and stakeholders. After graduating from medical school, I worked as project coordinator of a Community Based Project in one health district in a region. Upon specialising in ophthalmology and public health in ophthalmology, I developed from scratch and ran the maiden Integrated Regional Comprehensive Eye Health Programme in the South-West Region of Cameroon. I subsequently was appointed Regional Programme Officer for West Africa, at Sightsavers Regional Office, based in Accra, Ghana, covering 13 countries. From there I took the role of Country Director Cameroon that I assumed for 14 years before recently being promoted to the role of Senior Advisor for NTDs. I have collaborated with WHO at Regional Level and Global Level; collaborated with UNDP/UNDESA; participated in Global Fund-Raising campaigns and contributed to UN summits/meetings; technically led global initiatives such as piloting a Leave No One Behind (LNOB) self-assessment tool. Throughout my career, I have successfully led pioneer initiatives. I have significantly contributed to unlocking country and regional levels potentials in the areas of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), Eye Health, Inclusive Education, Political Participation of People with Disabilities, Disability Rights and Civil Society Engagement. I have achieved long-lasting impact to target populations, including people with disabilities. As a professional I am open-minded, innovative, results-orientated, influencing and proponent of diversity.
