Background

About Joseph Robb

I am the Director of Culture at Save A Warrior (SAW), a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of veterans, first responders, and others confronting complex post-traumatic stress, and suicidal ideation. My role encompasses more than just leadership; it’s about creating and sustaining a culture of healing, growth, and integration. As a Program Facilitator and member of the rostering team, I ensure that candidates are not only a fit for the program but receive continued support through our 72-hour Intensive Integrative Experience and ongoing connection with the SAW Community of Practice. My journey with Save A Warrior began with my own need for healing. After exhausting every option available to me through the VA and the recovery rooms ending in “Anonymous,” I found myself on the brink of hopelessness. Save A Warrior offered me a lifeline—and ultimately saved my life. The experience was transformational, leading me to volunteer at every opportunity and eventually join the team as a staff member. Born into a childhood marked by neglect, abuse, and dysfunction, I sought a better path by joining the Army in 2002. I served just over three years, including a combat deployment, but carried the invisible wounds of trauma for the next 15 years. PTSD, severe alcoholism, and suicidal ideation plagued my life, deeply affecting my relationships and my ability to connect with my children. It wasn’t until Save A Warrior that I was able to confront the events of my past through a novel, artistic process, surrounded by a community of warriors who provided acceptance without judgment or shame. Since attending SAW, I no longer experience suicidal ideation and have discovered my life’s purpose: to return for others who are suffering and guide them toward healing. Now based in Dayton, Ohio, with my wife, I continue my life’s work, ensuring that SAW alumni stay engaged and connected. I remain committed to strengthening our community of practice, empowering participants to engage in our after-care program, and supporting them on their path to healing. Save A Warrior is more than a program; it’s a way of life, a culture that integrates principles of recovery, and evidence-based practices. My mission is to cultivate this culture, so others may find the peace and purpose I discovered. I am grateful for the opportunity to walk this path and share the message of Save A Warrior with those who are suffering, offering a pathway to life.
