About Joseph Schiffer

A college graduate turned Colorado ski bum turned self taught IT Professional. I spent the majority of my 20's skiing and working as a hotel front desk/generalist IT manager in Vail, CO. I lived the same routine for 7 years. Wake up, ski the morning, work the afternoon/night shift, go out and have fun. Life was grand, but then I hit 30 and had the big realization that it was time to really begin a career. I decided to hone the IT skills I had been learning passively for years. I started working for Resort Internet running wiring in resorts all over Colorado and building wireless/TV networks. Then Vail Health called and gave me an opportunity to grow in a very advanced, structured, and HIPAA secure environment. As a user support technician I found I really enjoyed working for a fast paced environment with new things to learn every day. It helped to know that every ticket I resolved helped in the overall goal of delivering excellent patient care to those who lived in the same community as myself. A couple years later the organization changed and then I was given yet another big opportunity to excel. As Vail Health rebranded from Vail Valley Medical Center we decided to grow quickly and expand our organization across the mountains of Colorado in hopes of remaining independent from larger firms around Denver. We expanded the flagship hospital in Vail with a new East Wing and I was selected to lead the IT deployment of devices and infrastructure for the new 294 million dollar tower. Then the pandemic hit, and we had to coordinate and finish the East Wing on time despite having over 50% of our resources taken offsite and delays occurring constantly. Despite all the complications the team rallied and our deployment went very well. With more construction projects in Dillon, Basalt, Eagle, Edwards, and Avon all on the horizon, I was lifted into the role of IT Project Manager. Since then, I have completed multiple mass deployments of hardware as well as an enterprise wide cloud infrastructure upgrade. I am proficient and knowledgeable about most every Healthcare IT system I have encountered and can head on any problem the world throws at my team. I am looking for a next step forward as I complete my PMP and Cloud certifications to continue deploying larger and more complicated IT systems.
