About Joseph Severe

An organized leader with three years of Java experience, two years of Python experience, and one year of SQL experience. President of Datathon, a student organization founded in the Fall of 2021 that teaches members data science and machine learning. I am working as an administrative assistant at Salem State University, doing general office work. During the Summer of 2022, I was accepted into an AI (Artificial Intelligence) program at MIT called 'Break Through Tech,' and I earned an 'ML foundations' certificate through Cornell. During the fall, I collaborated with MIT-IBM staff researchers on an Algorithmic Fairness project (eliminating bias and discrimination in data). My team and I have competed in an exclusive coding competition hosted and sponsored by Google in the spring of 2023. Most Current: Currently, I'm a fellow at Hack Diversity in the Software Engineering track and I am 1 out of 503. This is the most competitive cohort to date between New York and Boston fellows so a lot of thought was put into each fellow. Within the program, I developed a CRUD app with my software engineering team (Tech. Dive) for Doctors notes and we had to pull the API to retrieve patient exams by developing a database query Technical Skills: MERN Stack, JavaScript, Python Experience & Skills: Developing CRUD apps (A Doctor notes app that retrieves API from a database of patient exams), Unit testing (using mocha and chai), enabling CI/CD automated pipeline (for automated testing), Database querying (to retrieve database information, creating a movie recommendation app for users (given the user's movie history and rating the system will predict how much they'd like a different movie based on a rating scale.
