About Joseph Sixta
Born and raised in Minnesota, I moved to Oregon after high school to study, kayak in the Puget Sound, and camp along the Pacific Coast. At Portland State University (PSU) I majored in Community Development and also spent time abroad studying sustainable community development in Kefalonia, Greece and renewable energy in Kassel, Germany. After graduating from PSU, I spent two years as an Americorps VISTA at a social service agency in East Portland. My path to becoming a teacher has been a bit circuitous, after VISTA I worked for different community non-profits in Oregon and Minnesota additionally I cooked and worked as a valet. In 2012 I went back to earn my Masters of Arts in Teaching and since then have been a classroom teacher. I am pleased that this vocation has provided opportunities to regularly engage with a diversity of people, constantly learn new material, and share my passion for learning, libraries, and justice with others.
