Background

About Joseph Welsh

I’ve served in the nonprofit field for more than 25 years, providing direct services, administrative support and project and organization management. At United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, I oversee finances and operations related to our community impact work, which focused on creating real change for people in need. Working directly with our fundraising team, finance department and impact managers, I oversee budgeting and managerial accounting support of our programs and develop systems to improve our organizational efficiency and effectiveness. My team also coordinates United Way’s grant requests and reporting to Foundations, as well as our competitive Request for Proposals allocations made to United Way partner agencies. I also provide direct support for the Vice President of Community Impact and the Chief Executive Officer. In addition, I work with our United for Children team and primarily focus on early childhood interventions. Within this role, I oversee our Hi5! Kindergarten Readiness and Registration initiative, convene the Regional Early Literacy Team (a group of early literacy organizations working on collaborative ways to increase impact) and manage United Way’s recently launched Books campaign in partnership with KPMG and the Allegheny County Chief Executive.
