About Joseph Yacker

As an Information Systems Analyst for the Spokane Valley Fire Department I am responsible for all aspects of datacenter management, including virtualization, storage, network engineering, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and capacity management. I manage system and application services such as Windows Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange, web services, and file/print servers. I also conduct project management, software engineering, provide Geographic Information services, and participate in hiring and purchasing. It is a challenging, fast-paced environment with plenty of opportunities for career growth. I enjoy working in a small team environment at SVFD. Over the years we have transitioned from a piecemeal server room to a fully virtualized, high performance (small) datacenter with full disaster recovery capabilities. Our network infrastructure has evolved from a single subnet to a full Cisco LAN-WAN configuration spanning 11 sites. I have had the opportunity to manage projects, write RFPs, and provide data analyses that have helped the agency become an accredited fire agency. Prior to joining SVFD in June, 2004 I held positions in the fields of Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Geographic Information Systems in private-sector, consulting firms, education and non-profit. I have a BA in Geography (GIS) from the University of Washington. I enjoy connecting with old friends and colleagues, and I always enjoy discussing the excitement and challenges of working in the Information Technology field.
