About Josephine Gustafsson

Josephine Gustafsson is a devoted and solutions-oriented professional who has extensive experience of managing multi-stakeholder driven sustainability programmes. Currently working at Sida, leading the work on challenge funds for innovation and equality. Prior to this she lead the strategic development of the thematic area of water and investments at SIWI. Mrs. Gustafsson has also worked at the World Bank with the IFC initiative 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG) in Nairobi and Pretoria, responsible for coordinating public-private initiatives aimed to support a sustainable use of water resources for growth in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. Mrs Gustafsson has in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience from working with corporate sustainability and natural resources management initiatives involving business, NGOs and decision-makers both at a strategic and operational level. Mrs Gustafsson previously worked at the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi where she developed Sweden’s strategy on Private Sector Collaboration and advanced new partnerships in key sectors aimed to reduce poverty in Kenya, Somalia and in Sub-Saharan Africa. With excellent analytical- and communication skills coupled with high proficiency in project management, Mrs Gustafsson has initiated innovative partnerships exploring market-driven tools for poverty reduction in different sectors. Her strong multidisciplinary background with a MA in Political Science and a MSc in Environmental Management and Economics has further enabled her to contribute with holistic solutions to complex problems whereas her main expertise lies in linking natural resources management with business approaches. Overall, her regional experiences include Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. With an outstanding academic record, combined with years of international project management experience in sustainability initiatives, Mrs Gustafsson is dedicated to creating innovative platforms for knowledge-sharing on sustainability issues for businesses, public actors, NGOs and academia.
