I am a Licensed Athletic Trainer who specializes in Industrial Medicine. My focus is connecting with our local business and manufactures to provide a work hardening/work conditioning program for their employees as they return to work following an injury. Work Hardening/Work Conditioning programs are comprehensive intensive rehabilitative programs with a team approach between Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physicians, Case Managers and Insurance Adjusters, with focus on returning an injured employee back to work at a pre-injury state. Treatment consists of an initial baseline evaluation of a patient’s functional abilities with progression to aerobic and cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, strengthening, functional training and job-specific demands and abilities. Work Hardening and Work Conditioning programs focus on the body as a whole, both upper and lower extremity, as well as the injured body part and focus on facilitation of returning an injured employee back to work in better physical condition, than they were when they left. After an initial evaluation, patients are progressed to visits lasting from 2 up to 8 hours in duration, with additional focus on body and lifting mechanics. Duration of the programs vary from 3 to 5 visits weekly, over a 4-6 week period. If not already provided, a job-site analysis may also be performed to ensure the critical demands of job can be met to ensure a safe return for work.
