About Joshua Alt

I come from a background in Johnstown, Pennsylvania without many resources and have gotten where I am through my own dedication and the help of those who recognized this dedication. Through my own effort to do what is expected of me or more and to do it very well I have improved my own life by leaps and bounds. I carry this same attitude in all the work I do. I am still passionate and fascinated by the concepts I have learned in my Mechanical Engineering education and view almost everything I do through the lens of those concepts. I think of heat transfer and latent energy when steaming broccoli or fracture mechanics when designing a sturdy set of gripper jaws. Truly, I try to understand all the things around me by thinking of their underlying mechanics. I would consider myself a maker as I deeply enjoy activities such as building furniture, brewing beer, cooking food, building mechanisms, drawing, 3D modeling, and programming devices. My favorite types of projects to work on are ones that require creative problem solving to work within tight constraints. I believe that any problem within reason can be solved and meet everyone's needs if enough effort and attention to detail is put into the design process. I learn by doing and have well developed my ability to teach myself new things quickly through my time working in the industry. In the end, I feel that there are few feelings better than seeing a project come together.
