About Joshua Cagan

More than anything else, I love movies. My drive is to be involved in the creation of this art that I love, in whatever way possible. As such, I have sought an education that would prepare me to work in any corner of the entertainment industry. During my undergraduate education at Carnegie Mellon University, I double majored in Decision Science and Film and Visual Media. My BS in Decision Science taught me about marketing, cognitive psychology, and behavioral economics. My BA in Film taught me film history, criticism, screenwriting, and production. I also partook in an 8-week filmmaking intensive at the New York Film Academy, giving me an even greater insight into production. I finally received a masters' degree in Entertainment Industry Management, also from CMU, which went into detail regarding various aspects of the industry. I learned about film financing, tv marketing, entertainment law, music supervision, script coverage, and more. I currently work at Atlas Talent Agency in the talent payment department. I perform various tasks such as posting direct payments, typing deposits, sorting checks, and communicating with buyers and clients. This work has taught me the value of both efficiency and accuracy. When handling checks, even slight delays or mistakes can cause serious problems with people's livelihood. Previously, I also performed more administrative tasks for Atlas, including answering phones, ordering food, managing schedules, and more. Additionally, I spent time at BDP Entertainment Group, a small studio focused on uplifting diverse voices. I worked as a development/writing assistant. While reporting directly to the CEO, I performed script coverage, wrote copy about our various projects, and communicated directly with writers. I was also responsible for managing interns and new hires in the writing and production departments.
