About Joshua Meltzer

I have over 20 years experience working at the highest level of business and government on AI policy as well as on international economic issues. At AWS, I support and help develop the companies position on AI governance in key regions and in international organizations. Prior to AWS, I was a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. where I co-led the Forum on Cooperation in AI (FCAI) with Cameron Kerry (Brookings) and Andrea Renda (CEPS), which built international cooperation in AI. I also led the Brookings USMCA initiative, which developed policy recommendations and thought leadership on how to build a more competitive North American economic relationship. Prior to Brookings, I spent 8 years at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as a trade negotiator and a diplomat at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC. I have consulted on digital trade and technology issues for technology companies, governments, the World Bank, the WTO, APEC, ABAC, and have testified on trade issues before the US Congress, the US International Trade Commission and the EU Parliament. I am also a senior fellow at Melbourne University Law School where I teach digital trade law and have been a regular speaker in print and media, including on CNN, CBS and MSNBC, the Economist, the New York Times and Bloomberg.
