Dr. Joshua Shepherd is a dedicated healthcare professional and educator, proud to call Harlan County, KY, his home and currently residing in Claiborne County, TN. With a career spanning over a decade, Dr. Shepherd has made significant contributions to both clinical practice and medical education. In 2019, Dr. Shepherd achieved the respectable title of Associate Professor of Physician Assistant Studies at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU). For three years, he served as the course director for pathophysiology in the Physician Assistant Program, influencing the academic journey of aspiring healthcare professionals. Dr. Shepherd's journey in healthcare began with a focus on family medicine at LMU's University Medical Clinic in New Tazewell, TN. During the initial five years of his career, he provided essential medical care to the University community and residents of surrounding counties in the Tri-State area. A desire to shape the future of healthcare practitioners led Dr. Shepherd to transition to PA education. In addition, he briefly assumed the role of an academic and remediation specialist, showcasing a commitment to the academic success of his students. With a Doctoral Degree in Medical Science from LMU, concentrating in Medical Education, and graduating with Alpha Chi honors, Dr. Shepherd exemplifies academic excellence. His interests extend beyond the traditional realms of medicine, encompassing a passion for medical humanities, political advocacy for the PA profession, and a dedicated mission to deliver healthcare to underserved populations. In his personal life, Dr. Shepherd embraces a range of experiences and finds satisfaction. Whether it's playing golf, enjoying music, exploring new destinations on travel adventures with his family, or immersing himself in other hobbies, he adopts a well-rounded approach that extends beyond his professional endeavors. Dr. Shepherd continues his impactful journey. Currently contributing to the Doctorate of Medical Science (DMS) program, teaching in the Medical Education Major, and serving as a mentor for scholarly projects, he remains committed to nurturing the academic and professional growth of future healthcare leaders. Additionally, Dr. Shepherd actively practices Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Servolution, a rural health clinic, addressing the healthcare needs of underserved populations in Appalachia.
