Background

About Josie Veon

I started pursuing my dream of becoming a registered nurse at Penn State University in January of 2015. I successfully completed 6 out of the 8 semesters required for their bachelors degree program,(3 out of 4 years). In 2018, after my third year in the program at PSU, I had made the decision to put a hold on my dream of becoming a nurse because I was having a child with a severe birth defect and needed to get very specialized medical attention and knew that I needed to relocate for at least several months in order to get the best possible care for my child. I point this out in order to say that I left Penn State in excellent academic standing and have always had a true passion for helping others and the medical field, not because of academic struggles or any doubt in knowing that being a nurse is want I wanted to do. I began pursuing my education again in Janurary of 2020 at Mount Aloysius College. I chose to finish my degree at a different institution due to the timing of when I could get back into school sooner. I will have an Associate’s Degree in Nursing in December of 2021, and after completing only two more courses (6 credits), I will have my Bachelors degree in nursing in just an additional 8 more weeks,(February of 2022). I am elated to almost be at my goal. Professionally, I will be going into a field where there are so many opportunities. My ambition is to get into the ICU so that I can complete the necessary hours of intensive care unit experience in order to go to grad school. As a brand new nurse I personally feel like I need to get my feet wet before putting myself in the ICU where peoples lives absolutely depend on you knowing exactly what your doing. I am applying a number of different places for the position of being a,"float nurse". This is where they will send you to different floors of a hospital depending on where they need the help, and this will give me an excellent foundation of clinical skills and knowledge in all fields of nursing. When I feel comfortable and confident that I will be able to take care of extremely sick patients and handle all of the emergent situations that come from that then I will pursue a career as an ICU nurse. When I think of my future professional goals and what I would be happy doing, all that really entails is me being of service as a nurse, and helping patients to the best of my ability. and now because of a world pandemic theres also so much money to be made.
