About Joy Fowler

When I was 19, I decided to venture away from my picturesque and friendly tourist town I called home in northern Michigan. I knew I wanted to help others; I just wasn't quite sure where, whom, when, and in what capacity. I wanted to serve and educate others for the greater good. Advocate for others to advocate for themselves. I knew true growth came from stepping outside one's "comfort zone," including, but limited to: personal morals, family/community traditions, cultural and religious beliefs, societal norms, and interpersonal experiences. Deciding it would be beneficial to my personal growth and professional goals, I researched and booked a trip to volunteer overseas for one month. I challenged my beliefs, insecurities, and resilience by immersing myself into a foreign rural community completely on the opposite side of the Earth. Driven to expand my knowledge and comprehension of other cultures, environments, conditions, and simply people/things I do not know or understand, I found a passion. A passion to serve others in the ways that they, as a symbiotic community, needed and wanted most. In that two-month journey abroad in pursuit of a potential career path or even personal life path for myself, I had found a new strength and passion to help others in their personal journeys, whatever that looked like. I maintained that budding interest and determination throughout my daily juggling of working full-time at varied positions in northern Michigan while attending college and university classes part-time. I genuinely enjoy learning and challenging my pre-conceived notions or beliefs. I welcome constructive feedback and enjoy exploring why/how people make the decisions they do and how they proceed from that point. I enjoy striking-up conversations with customers or clients to further understand their needs, desires, and/or expectations, to better serve and surpass their future experiences with the organization/company I am serving alongside.
