Background
About Joy Olagoke
In April 2016 I graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa with a Minor in (Industrial) Design as a complement to my Architectural History Major. An exploration of design principles throughout my education has shaped my perspective. In June 2021 I received my Master of Architecture. A portion of my previous studies included an eye opening exchange term in Scotland at the University of Edinburgh in 2015. My time there was a gateway to other countries across Europe, thus following my semester’s end, I spent May through August travelling, concluding with a month of volunteering with an English Immersion camp for youths in Poland. My travels, both abroad and domestic, including moving to Eastern Canada by myself, awakened an independence that I’ve continued to strengthen. I am a resilient, and self-motivated individual. Also, I am able to adapt and take lead, in situations in which this approach is called for. I do not need to rely on instruction to commence work, or take a project one step further, however, I also thrive in synergetic team projects. In addition to travelling, whilst at University, I held extracurricular positions which allowed me to hone my leadership skills. For my final 2 years I was president of the art club which also helped me enhance my managerial skills through delegating tasks to the rest of my executive team. As well, as a prominent member of the Outdoors Club of Carleton each year of my degree, I have worked a lot with community outreach and support trying to get people involved in these clubs which has resulted in my great interpersonal ability. In the past I worked for Tutlo, an online English Second language tutoring service, which has provided me another opportunity to teach and work with people.
