Joy Tien is a Senior 3D Artist at BUCK, known for her expertise as both a 3D lead and a versatile generalist. Specializing in look development and lighting, she brings her creative vision to life across animated commercials, AR, and VR projects. Her work stands out in the playful characters, refined materials, and dynamic lighting that make for visually striking experiences. Beyond her artistic talent, Joy collaborates closely with BUCK's Creative Technology team, shaping the 3D workflow for cutting-edge AR and VR projects, bridging the gap between CG and technology. With a client list that includes Meta, Amazon, Apple, Nike, Coca-Cola, and more, Joy has established herself as a highly sought-after artist in the industry. Passionate about the intersection of art and technology, Joy also shares her knowledge and experience as a speaker at conferences like Dash Bash in Raleigh and as a guest at educational institutions such as Taipei National University of the Arts, Pratt, and the School of Visual Arts in New York. She’s committed to fostering emerging talent and helping others grow in the field. From 2016 to 2019, Joy served as a board member for the NYC ACM SIGGRAPH chapter, where she helped organize industry events, design promotional materials, and strengthen the community. Later, from 2021 to 2022, she contributed to the ACM SIGGRAPH annual conference as a key member of the Production Session sub-committee, curating impactful content for the community. A passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, Joy was a founding member of BUCK's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. She also volunteered her time as a mentor in Women in Animation’s Mentor Circle Program, helping to shape the future of the industry. Outside of her professional work, Joy channels her creativity into personal mixed media projects, hosts art shows, and draws inspiration from her travels. In 2023, she showcased her punch-needle art in a solo exhibition at Artbean Coffee Roaster, further demonstrating her multifaceted creative journey.
