About Joyce Bateman

Member of PSAB ensuring there is relevant and credible information for the Public to evaluate organizational financial performance. Former Member of Parliament, proven Consensus Builder with executive experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Economic Development and Strategic Planning. I have had the honour of serving four and a half years as a Member of Parliament and over 10 years as an elected School Trustee. Both roles have allowed me to serve my community, learn about governance and served as an ideal training ground for understanding the crucial aspects of the Shareholders’ and the Constituents’ rights, concerns and point of view. As a consensus builder, proven leader and strategic thinker I was able to successfully bring my Private Member’s Bill on Rail Safety, Bill C-627, successfully to Royal Assent with unanimous support from all members of the House of Commons and the Senate. Seeking and receiving Union support was an important part of this success. I became an accomplished communicator in both official languages of French and English on Delegations, in the House of Commons and in Committee. As a CPA, CA with experience in Public Accounting and Audit, at a Publicly Traded Corporation and in the Public Sector, I have brought my accounting and audit skills to all my public service roles. These skills were especially helpful to me as Chair of the Board of the Winnipeg School Division, Chair of the Finance/Audit Committee and sole Board representative on the Investment/Pension Committee. These skills were most beneficial when I was appointed to the Parliamentary Standing Committees for: Finance, Public Accounts, Industry, Status of Women and Official Languages. I obtained my ICD.D designation to compliment my CPA,CA and HBA Western. I am happy to use my knowledge of corporate governance, enterprise risk management, economic development, strategic planning and audit committee experience.
