About Joyce Gerber

My career as an educator, middle school administrator, college instructor and teacher-trainer has been defined by my skills to continuously respond to educational innovation, reform efforts and emerging research. I am a strong communicator who used these tools to impact student learning. I have volunteered with the International Literacy Association serving two terms on the Book Awards Committee and have presented at state, national and international educational conferences. As a middle school principal, I am a proactive leader, whose style challenges and expands each staff member’s instructional abilities. Through my experiences in both urban and suburban school districts, I have worked diligently to develop the capacity of teachers and students alike. Using in-depth data analysis, my current school was honored by Battelle for Kids for being in the top 2% of high achieving schools in the state of Ohio. These accomplishments were attained with a skilled teaching staff and strong leadership. Throughout my tenure, I have worked to successfully integrate all students into mainstream classrooms. As a school administrator, I was able to design and implement a co-teaching inclusion program that has produced strong academic growth for all students. I have been employed by Reading First Ohio Center (e-Reads Ohio), to research and write an on-line professional development course entitled: School Leadership: Professional Learning Teams; and 2008, I was honored by the Ohio School Counselor’s Association as the “Outstanding Administrator” for the State of Ohio.
