About Joyce Hammel

My passion is helping individuals and organizations achieve the extraordinary. In my current position as leader of Strategic Organization Development, we are transforming the culture to be more engaging and inclusive and higher performing. Our work includes redesigning performance management, creating an inclusive and safe work environment, raising employee engagement, and improving learning & development at all levels. We are anchoring our culture transformation in core values that we have aligned the leadership team around. In addition to directing these work streams, I provide executive coaching to multiple leaders, design and facilitate leadership events, and oversee communications. At the heart of our work is a rich network of stakeholder collaboration across the UC system including with our HR partners. A hallmark of my approach is that I am hands-on, direct and collaborative so I build and develop trusted relationships with partners, peers and team members that ensure organizational goals are achieved. What excites me about this work is driving positive change—change the individual employees and leaders often believe is impossible at the start of our work together. Whether it is coaching a woman or minority leader to discover their strengths, helping an executive leader understand a personal blind spot or working with front line teams to discover how to resolve conflict, each ah-ha moment of personal growth is precious to me. When these changes culminate across the organization, not only do people feel great, the organization performance also rises significantly. This spiral of positive momentum is contagious and it’s an amazing feeling every time it happens.
