About Joyce Muchena

My work as the Head of Gender Mainstreaming at Mastercard Foundation has sharpened my expertise in strategy development, leadership and policy dialogue and boosted my ability to work independently and as part of a team to drive results in a dynamic environment. Nurture strong relationships of trust with the technical gender team that I carefully on-boarded remotely is one of my major accomplishments in this role. Co-creating and learning effective gender mainstreaming practices with private sector, public sector and civil society partners, in diverse sectors such as agriculture, digital economy(including E-learning), Entrepreneurship development, Workforce development(TVETs) etc has been an exciting challenge. Being part of the team during the co-design and implementation of COVID response initiatives required agility and adaptability and presented a greatly rewarding opportunity. I oversaw the development of a tailor-made gender learning approach for the Foundation. The KARIBU training, which stands for Knowledge, Acknowledgement, Reflection, Inspiration (to action) Budgeting and Uniting to establish gender-responsive programs, speaks to the Foundation's unique commitment of enabling 21m young African Women to access dignified and fulfilling work by 2030, through the Young Africa Works Strategy. In my previous position as Director of Women Empowerment and Transformation at CARE Kenya I got an the opportunity to enhance my technical and leadership skills in gender, diversity and inclusion, women’s leadership, youth empowerment and good governance. I would like to apply my skills, passion and commitment to the empowerment of women and young people in current and future roles and contribute my gifs and talents to inclusive development initiatives.
