About Joycelyn Joya

My passions lie within the field of education. I grew up seeing the best of both worlds having attended private and public schools. As a child, I wanted to improve the education system after the large impact and lessons taught to me by all of my teachers. Within the field of psychology, my research centered around learning styles, student success, low income and minorities. During my undergraduate, I presented my research group's study,"Career Self-Efficacy, Sex Role Identity and Life Satisfaction" at the Southwestern Psychological Association Conference in April 2014 and Southeastern Social Science Association Conference in April 2015. I have spent three years working at Lamar University in the Office of Student Tutoring and Retention Services. I hope to enhance my skills to teach the younger generation how to strive for their dreams regardless of their circumstances that may prevent them from achieving success.
